We will generate novel insights and improved strategies to promote optimal cardiovascular health and access to care for all Australians.

The SMuRFless CAD Clinics

Welcome to the SMuRFless CAD Clinic, where we specialise in improving clinical outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who have minimal traditional risk factors. Our clinical pathways, developed based on specific evidence from our research efforts, are tailored to address the unique needs of SMuRFless CAD patients. By considering both biological differences and the challenges in psychosocial care, survivorship, and the patient experience, our team aims to facilitate effective preventative management strategies for those that may have "silent" CAD. We offer our services currently in Sydney and will be expanding across nationally harmonised clinics in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Referrals to our dedicated SMuRFless CAD Clinics are welcome, providing personalised care and support for those in need.

The Clinical Pathway

Upon receiving a referral from your healthcare professional for the SMuRFless CAD Clinic, a member of the team will be in touch with you to start your journey through the SMuRFless clinic pathway.

Prior to your clinic appointment you will undergo some assessments to understand your underlying risk factors for CAD. These pre-clinic assessments allow our cardiologists to review your results in advance and make personalised, evidence-based recommendations based on your individual risk profile.

Screening Tools

Periodontal disease, obstructive sleep apnoea, health-related quality of life and major depressive disorder.

On the day of your clinic visit, which takes approximately 45 - 60 minutes, you will meet with one of the clinic cardiologists, where you will complete some measurements and record your vital signs.

The cardiologists will work with you to understand the underlying risk factors and use dedicated clinical pathways to ensure you receive personalised, evidence-based secondary prevention. A detailed letter will then be shared with your healthcare provider and added into your medical records.

Patients attending our clinics will have the opportunity to participate in two important research initiatives: the BioHEART Study and the national SMuRFless CAD Registry. By joining these studies, you can contribute to the development of novel markers for CAD and provide valuable insights into lesser-known or infrequently encountered risk factors. This research aims to identify new approaches to reduce the future risk of heart attacks and inform evidence-based care pathways for individuals with CAD. Your participation will contribute to advancing our understanding of CAD and improving patient care.
